Projects
To achieve REACH's mission of improving health-care in Ghana and promoting equal access to quality health-care for all by: supplementing health-care resources, engaging and empowering members of the community, and advocating for, and helping to develop sustainable approaches to health-care. this aim, the organization creates a collaborative space for professionals in Ghana and in the diaspora with stakes in the health-care system. The organization seeks to reduce barriers to early detection of diseases, increase access to quality care, treatments and ongoing interventions, and enhance the training of health-care workers to impact the prevention and control of diseases and conditions which contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality in Ghana. To date, REACH has successfully amassed a membership of over 80 professionals who have committed to the cause of contributing to improve health-care in Ghana.
Research projects initiated by REACH aim at identifying health-care needs and improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care in Ghana, with the overall aim of improving the quality of health care and promoting evidence-based decision making in health-care settings. REACH aims to publish the results of research performed in peer-reviewed journals. In the long-term, results from research performed by REACH will provide a framework for the development of solutions to Ghana's health-care issues.
Education projects focus on providing innovative learning tools and materials for health-care professionals in training where there is a real need. The education component of our operations also provides opportunities for local and foreign students to participate in any REACH project as interns and volunteers.
Community-based initiatives typically begin with extensive research on projects undertaken within the field in the past, leveraging the experiences, successes and failures of these past projects as bases for new initiatives. Projects are planned to include education on preventive methods, training of community health representatives local to the target population, and assistance and monitoring of care for affected individuals. Each program begins with a consultation with the appropriate national agency for the health-care issue being tackled. For example, within the first year of REACH's operations, the HIV/AIDS and Malaria Working Groups are consulting with the National AIDS Control Program and with the National Malaria Control Program respectively.
REACH projects are planned all year round by Working Groups composed of dues-paying members of the organization, and are headed by Project Directors qualified to head projects in the relevant field. Projects are supervised by Project Chairs from the Executive Board in consultation with the Advisory Board.
